A number without its method is a rumour. Every answer carries what went in, how it was worked out, and where it came from — and when it rests on something unverified, it says so on the answer rather than in a settings screen.

Wiring Simulator

Tap a conductor and find out what it's doing.

Not a definition of a traveler — what this conductor is doing in this circuit, in every switch position, solved by the same engine that grades the lesson.

  • A switched leg with the switch off isn't floating — the lamp ties it to the grounded conductor, and a meter shows a solid zero.
  • An open conductor is never called "0 V". It'll read 40 or 60 volts of nothing, and being told to expect zero is how you decide your meter's broken.
  • Expert mode doesn't highlight the right terminal. Being able to build it wrong is the only reason building it right means anything.

Troubleshooting

A service call, not a multiple-choice question.

Most apps hand you the symptom, the meter readings and four answers at once. That's a reading exercise. Here you get the complaint, and you earn everything after it.

  • Each step costs time and rules out what it actually can — the app can't claim a check narrowed something it didn't.
  • Ring out a live circuit and it stops you, says why, and puts it in the report above your score.
  • Open the boxes before you commit and it says so: that's reading the answer, not finding it.

What usually fails, and what we won't guess at.

A failed inspection costs a week, and most of them are caught by walking the job once with the right list. So the corrections that actually get written up ship as content — and everything jurisdictional ships as a question with somewhere to record the answer.

  • Cable support, nail plates, box fill, working clearance, bonding — every item is something you check yourself with a tape measure.
  • No turnaround figures. "Usually two to three days" is a number you'd schedule a drywall crew around, and we don't know it for a single jurisdiction.
  • Whatever your AHJ tells you gets recorded, and the app uses it for that jurisdiction from then on.

Can apprentices use it, or is this for foremen?

It's built for apprentices first. The calculators, the simulator, the daily code question and the job site are all free, and Projects exists so you can photograph a trench before it gets covered — not so somebody can run a schedule. If you've ever been asked "what was under there?" six months later, that tab is for you.

Does SparkAI replace the NEC?

No, and it's built specifically not to pretend otherwise. SparkAI may explain a concept and point you at the right tool. It is not permitted to state a conductor size, a breaker size, an ampacity, a grounding method or a code citation on its own — those come from a calculator or from the reviewed reference. When it can't answer with full confidence, it says so and hands you somewhere to go instead.

Does it work offline?

Every calculator, the simulator, troubleshooting and your projects work with no connection — they're computed on the device. SparkAI needs a connection. If you lose signal the app degrades to "deterministic only" rather than to "nothing", which is deliberate.

What's the difference between Pro and Lifetime Tools?

Lifetime Tools is a one-time purchase for the core calculators, kept permanently. Pro is a subscription covering the parts with an ongoing cost behind them — SparkAI, the full training libraries, unlimited project storage and exports. Lifetime is not a cheaper Pro; it's a different product for someone who wants the tools and nothing else.

Can contractors use it for real jobs?

Yes — Projects, daily logs, panel schedules, estimating and exports are built for that, and exports are scoped by audience so what a customer sees isn't what an inspector sees. It is not a replacement for a full project management system, and it doesn't pretend to be one.

Does it find contractors, or verify licences?

Licence verification opens the issuing board's own record — we don't keep a copy, because a cached licence status is a status from whenever it was cached. Contractor search and nearby contractors are not built yet. They need public records we haven't imported, and a search box over an empty database is worse than no search box.
